Just like in art, I always try to implement new creations in fashion and challenge myself and my style. I have always been fascinated by the American lifestyle. The ease and joy of experimentation has always impressed me so much. There is no outfit that is too flashy and too colorful. Everything is worn as the mood takes you.
Although it has slowly changed in many major European cities, one must honestly say that a classic style of dress still dominates.
I grew up in a conservative country where tradition has huge part and that of course has shaped me in many ways. I had to break out of this way of living first to develop my own style and taste. I have always been a free spirit and the desire not to go with the crowd has definitely helped a lot.
Traveling to other countries and getting to know other cultures was also very helpful.
By now I am very confident in my way of thinking and my personal style. I know what suits me and although I like to try new things, I always stay true to myself. I would not like to be put into a category. My friends lovingly call it the "Stephi style" and this is exactly what I always try to stay true to.
I still remember when I went to castings in Milan in my young twenties with black painted nails and skull shirts. Probably you can imagine how that must have looked. Back then, the etiquette was clean and as natural as possible. By the way, this also applied to the fingernails. Well, these looks and moments will always remain in my memory. I felt like a rebel. Amazing.
With the introduction of the new media, I certainly got carried away at first, following one or the other trend. But I quickly got away from that because I very quickly lost myself and my own style in the process. I no longer felt like myself.
I read something many years ago that has stayed in the back of my mind until today and that I always like to remember. Do you know why you feel so good next to people who are completely themselves?
Because they give you the unspoken permission to be 100% yourself.
